THE FINAL JEWISH HOLOCAUST OCCURS FROM SEAL 6 TO VIAL 7
Truly, God’s Son will soon return to comfort Israel, and indeed, Israel’s warfare for almost 2000 years has been horrific. They have been the most persecuted people on the surface of God’s earth for the rejection of Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ; the most notable terror up to this time being the brutal slaughter of some six million by the Nazis in the Great Holocaust. The last horror to come on them will be the slaughter of some four million when the armies of antichrist pour south to conquer the land from Dan to Beersheba, driving Israel in the Negev Wilderness.
Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Zechariah 13:8,9 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. ISRAEL REJECTED HER MESSIAH GOD JESUS AT HIS 1ST ADVENT
Even though God sent John the Baptist in the Judean wilderness to proclaim Jesus’ arrival as Messiah, Israel rejected the kingdom message and the king of whom John testified. The messenger was John and Jesus was the messenger and confirmer of the temple covenant, which pictured him in all its sacrifices and ordinances.
ISAIAH 40:3 – The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Matthew 3:1-3 – In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, [2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. [3] For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John was the messenger who announced the Lord had arrived, and Jesus was the messenger of the everlasting covenant pictured in his temple.
Malachi 3:1 – Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
In the days of Isaiah, long before the advent of modern vehicles and highway engineering that bored tunnels, elevated deep valleys, and leveled mountains to create a system of rapid communication across the world of that day, it would have been difficult for the spread of the gospel to the Gentile world. God prepared the world in such a way that when his Son did arrive, everything was in place for the spread of his gospel. He came in the fullness of time in God’s plan to redeem mankind.
ISAIAH 40:4 – Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Galatians 4:4 – But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
The high mountains, deep valleys, crooked paths, and very rough trails, once great obstacles to the passage of those carrying messages across the known world, had been downgraded to inconveniencies, rather than great barriers to communications. The following things were true when Jesus began his earthly ministry.
(1) It was a time of peace brought on by Roman control.
(2) There was a structured form of Roman government throughout the civilized world.
(3) The first great system of well built roads stretched across the Roman Empire.
(4) There was a common man’s language for the writing of the New Testament – Koine Greek.
(5) One could pass across all the borders of the many former countries without any great interference because they were all under Roman control.
The glory of God in the gospel revealed in the face of his Son Jesus has now been revealed to all mankind by his life, his death, his burial, and his resurrection.
ISAIAH 40:5 – And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
John 1:14 – And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
I John 1:1,2 – That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; [2] (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 6 – The Gray Thickens
Zechariah 14:6 – And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
As I indicated in Chapter 1 of this series, due to requests for copies of my first book, which I allowed to go out of print, I decided to reprint it, making any changes necessary to update it after 27 years have past. I updated Chapter 4, “The Blue Turns to Gray” in a previous Prophecy Update. Much of Chapter 6 deals with the same phenomena in Chapter 4, because when I wrote “Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit,” I combined the two into a single chapter. The Birth Pang Figures in our Archives that deal with Chapter 4 are Numbers 10 to 14, while those dealing with Chapter 6 are numbers 14 to 16.
Modern man in his running “to and fro” has discovered the strange qualities of sunlight. We now know that in some ways sunlight behaves like waves, and at other times it behaves as though its composition is a maze of particles. Man has discovered several laws of light. Two in which I am particularly interested are the law of diffuse and regular reflection of light, and the law of the refraction of light. All laws in the world of science are of God. They are like the one who made them in his natural creation, in that they do not change, and are consistent in producing the same results. It is not the purpose of the author to teach physics to the reader, so I will refrain from a technical discussion of the two laws, but will refer those interested to a general physics text. The reason “the light will not be clear, nor dark,” is that the earth’s upper atmosphere (the stratosphere) will be filled with a cloud of suspended, microscopic, volcanic particles. The incoming light from the sun, by a process of diffuse reflection, scattering, and refraction, while passing through the cloud shield, will be dimmed such it will not be “bright as day” on earth’s surface, nor will it be “dark as pitch.” It is the perfect picture of how much light would be reaching the earth’s surface if its stratosphere had been filled with a volcanic cloud of smoke particles. It is precisely what light is like on a cloudy day anywhere, but this will be a cloud covering all the earth, and it will simply be a cloudy day at every point on the surface of the planet. To a Hebrew, like Zechariah, “clear” light was the light that came down on him unrestricted by clouds, while “dark” was the total absence of light as on a starless night. It will not be totally dark or totally bright anywhere on earth. There is no better way to put it, a cloudy day is one in which the sunlight is restricted in its full glow on earth’s surface but, on the other hand, it is not pitch dark, and there is some light (See Birth Pang Figure 14).
Zechariah 14:7 – But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
A most unusual phenomenon: light at night from the sun! When will it occur? The answer is found in verses 4 and 5, which describe the cleavage of the Mount of Olives, a definite occurrence of the latter portion of the Tribulation Period. In the latter part of the Tribulation Period the great cloud shroud of figure 14 will have established itself around the entire earth above the tropopause. It is this great cloud shroud that will fulfill the prophecies of verses 6 and 7. Verse 6 states that the light will not be clear nor dark. To a Hebrew, clear light was unobstructed light, a light that came from its source to fall on an object with few, if any, obstructions along its path. A Hebrew viewed darkness as the absence of light. So we are advised that there will be some light (it will not be pitch dark), but the light will not be clear light (it will be partially obstructed). This is a perfect description of what we call a cloudy day. On days when the skies are overcast we do have light, but it is not clear light, for the clouds obstruct our view of the sun. The light on a cloudy day always reaches us by a process that involves reflection, refraction, and scattering of the light from the sun. During the latter portion of the Tribulation Period man will not see the sun. But limited light, of varying degrees, will penetrate the great cloud shield in the stratosphere. It will be a very dull, gray, depressing light in which the inhabitants of the earth are struggling for survival. But how can it come to pass “that at evening time it shall be light?” How is it possible that, at every location on the face of the earth, there will be some light during the evening hours when normally it is pitch dark?
About 20 years ago, after presenting a lecture series in California for Dr. Reed, I departed the Los Angeles area by jet to Dallas, flying at an altitude just below 40 thousand feet. It was a beautiful day from the surface to the top of the atmosphere along the entire flight path, with clear skies above and below the aircraft. As we crossed Arizona and New Mexico the light from the sun beamed upon the ground below us, and through the air above us. When we crossed into Texas there were no clouds below or above us, and the sun was beaming on the aircraft with its full brilliance, but as I looked toward the earth’s surface I begin to notice tiny pinpoints of light on the ground. People had turned on the lights below us because it was dark at ground level. The curvature of the earth had already blocked off the surface rays of the sun at ground level across Texas, but at our flight level and above it was broad daylight. If there had been a way for me to take the light at high levels and direct it downward, it would have produced light on the surface below, where darkness had enshrouded Texas. It is not by accident that the God of light, who is Light, has very conveniently established a law in nature where this is predictably possible – The law of refraction.
Laws are not theories. They are like God because they are made by God. They are consistent and can always be counted to act in a predictable, unchanging manner. It is not my purpose to teach physics, so I will refrain from a technical discussion of the law itself, and will rather refer those interested in such a dissertation to any general physics textbook. Refraction occurs because light waves travel at different speeds through different substances. Refraction involves the bending of light waves as they move from one medium to another. In figure 15 you can see the bending effect on light as it passes from a less dense medium (air) into a denser medium (water). If you want to see this bending of light in action, drop a pencil and a coin into a glass about three-fourths full of water. The pencil will appear to be broken at the water surface, and the coin will appear to be on the side of the glass. This is a phenomenon produced by refraction.
Why is it that we still have light long after the sun has disappeared over the horizon? And why do we have light in the morning before the sun comes into view? You guessed it! It is the law of refraction at work. As the sun’s rays travel through space, they move very rapidly, as if in a vacuum, but when contact is made with the more dense atmospheric medium of the earth, the light decelerates, and is bend around the curvature of the earth by the law of refraction. This law causes the light to reach the surface before the sun appears in the morning, and to trail behind on the surface long after the early evening sun disappears.

II Thessalonians 2:1 – Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
This is, of course, referring to the gathering together, the catching up, of the saints in I Thessalonians 4:16,17.
I Thessalonians 4:16,17 – For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
The primary subject of II Thessalonians 2:1-12 involves the event known as the “rapture,” which is identified as the first resurrection in the New Testament. The only angel specifically identified as an archangel is Michael, but it is generally accepted that Satan and Gabriel were also archangels, created by God to rule over the three angelic realms he created for different specific purposes.
Daniel 10:13 – But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Daniel 12:1 – And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Jude 1:9 – Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
II Thessalonians 2:1,2 – Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Paul tells them specifically in unmistakable terms – If any stand up among you, and tell you something I told you about the rapture, which is different from what I taught you, don’t get shook up in your spiritual mind or troubled in your daily walk, even if they claim to be led of the Holy Spirit to say it, or claim it is the word of God, or even if they show you an epistle they say we wrote, which they use to tell you the Lord is coming at some specific time in the near future. His major thrust is a simple one – do NOT believe anything different from what I originally taught you. Do NOT believe them if they tell you the rapture is in the immediate future or it has already occurred, such as was the case Paul mentioned in his second epistle to Timothy.
II Timothy 2:18 – Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
II Thessalonians 2:1-3 – Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
In verse one Paul tells them the subject he is about to address is the first resurrection.
In verse two he tells them not to believe anything that is different from what he originally taught them about the first resurrection, especially as it pertains to being in the immediate future or having occurred in the past.
Paul begins verse three by referring back to verse two by telling them again, “Let no man deceive you by any means,” meaning, as he had previously advised them against believing anything different from what he had previously taught them. So, just what did he tell them had to first happen before the rapture occurred? He said two things had to happen before the rapture would occur: “for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.” First, there had to be a falling away from the faith once delivered to the saints – So this means the truths of the faith had to be taught in many places before believers could fall way from it, which meant the rapture had not already occurred, nor was it in the near future when Paul wrote this epistle. The second event, which was to occur before the rapture, and which had not occurred when Paul wrote the epistle, was a visible revealing of the antichrist to the eyes of believers.

THE FIRST WOE IS TRUMPET 5
By the time the first “woe” begins, on the sounding of the fifth trumpet in the book of Revelation, I think about 5 months of great tribulation will continue on the earth. By the time the last “woe” occurs on the sounding of the seventh and last trumpet, a complete cloud shroud will have been built over the entire earth from the base of the tropopause upward deep into the stratosphere. Some light will pass through it as it does even on a dark overcast rainy day, but man will not see the sun directly until the brilliant light of the glory of the person of Christ breaks through the cloud over Jerusalem to close the Tribulation Period at His Second Advent.
Luke 21:27 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Malachi 4:1-3 – For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. [2] But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. Revelation 9:1,2 – And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. [2] And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
I am a literal interpreter. That does not mean that I take all the inspired writings to be absolutely literal. I am very aware that certain parts of God’s Word are inspired poetically, figuratively and symbolically, but unless it yields ridiculous results, I am always more inclined to accept a literal interpretation over a figurative or symbolic explanation.
In verse one there are some points that can be made literally concerning the symbols, things, places and events described. First of all, the star is identified by the personal pronoun “him” as a masculine spiritual being that comes from Heaven.
Secondly, this masculine spiritual being comes to a physical place: the planet Earth. Now, putting these two factors together, we have a being sent from Heaven to the physical earth. That means he is standing on the surface of what you see in figure 3, on top of these massive tectonic plates that float on top of an underground ocean of liquid rock.
Fourthly, I call your attention to the Koine Greek words translated “bottomless pit,” those being phreatos tes abussou, or literally, SHAFT OF THE ABYSS. This is a perfect scientific description of these great geological faults shown in Figure 9. They are a great interconnecting shaft system that extends down through the crust into the abyss. It is this locked system that the heavenly being is sent to unlock. He unlocks the locked plate structure with the power of God symbolized by the key.
Thirdly, this heavenly visitor has been given a key which represents the authority to unlock something. He has been sent to unlock the earth itself. The earth is the bottomless pit. There are hundreds of geometric figures that have bottoms, but the earth is an oblate spheroid, and as such, it has no bottom. If it were possible to dig through the earth you could never reach bottom for you would simply come out on the opposite side from which you started; the earth has no bottom. those being phreatos tes abussou, or literally, SHAFT OF THE ABYSS. This is a perfect scientific description of these great geological faults shown in Figure 9. They are a great interconnecting shaft system that extends down through the crust into the abyss. Fifthly, please note that the interior of the bottomless pit is likened to a “great furnace.” Virtually all-scientific texts of today use this term to describe the interior of the earth.
And, lastly, please notice the results of the unlocking of the tectonic plates in verse two—a great smoke that rises up to darken the sun and the atmosphere. This is precisely what would occur if these huge tectonic plates were unlocked.
Volcanic smoke would pour upward into the earth’s atmosphere along all areas indicated by the dashed lines shown in figure 3. This smoke would most assuredly darken the sun on a worldwide basis as it collected and advected around the earth under a great temperature inversion just above the tropopause.
“THAT WICKED” IS WAITING IN THE WINGS OF PROPHECY – PART 2

II Thessalonians 2:3 – Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
At times in the New Testament, the expression “that day” has a wide variety of prophetic time periods, which are determined by the context of the verses in which it is found. In these verses the context determines “that day” to mean specifically the day of the rapture.
Paul advises the local church that those who are telling them that the rapture has already occurred, or is about to happen in the immediate future, are misinforming them. And he then gives then two reasons why what they have been told by these men is simply not true.
The first reason is that the great “falling away” had not occurred at the time he wrote the epistle, and until it did no one could say the coming of the Lord was going to happen right away. The Greek word translated “falling away” is “apostosia,” from which our English word “apostasy” is derived. In the context of these verses, it is preceded by the definite article in the Greek text, and can only refer to “the falling away” from something, and that something represents the gospel truths of the faith once delivered to the saints.
Jude 1:3 – Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
At the time Paul wrote II Thessalonians he knew the rapture was not in the immediate future, because the faith had not been delivered by the gospel to all the world of his day, as Jesus had indicated it would before the end.
Matthew 24:14 – And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
The faith, a system of teaching and doctrine, had to first be in place in order to have a “falling away” from it. In an attempt to justify the “first of the week” position, in very recent times, someone came up with the idea that “apostosia” meant “a catching out” of the saved at the rapture, but that is stretching the linguistic meaning of the word far beyond allowable limits. It’s a cute idea, but it just isn’t true.
Well, I would say it is finally getting close to the first resurrection, because the falling away from the truth is now in full swing on a worldwide basis, just as Paul indicated in his second epistle to Timothy.
II Timothy 4:1-4 – I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; [2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3]For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
The second reason he gave them that the rapture had not yet occurred, and was not in the immediate future, was that the man of sin, the antichrist, had not yet been revealed to them. The Greek word rendered “revealed” in the KJV is “apokalupto,” which means “to remove the veil or covering away from, so as to expose to open view what was before hidden, hence, to reveal, to make manifest.” The same word is used in the same epistle to refer to Christ’s visible manifestation at the time of his Second Advent.
II Thessalonians 1:7,8 – And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, [8] In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Revelation 1:7 – Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Some who hold the “first of the week” position teach we will be caught out before the antichrist is revealed to the believers, but that is simply not true.
I have a suspicion that many who believe they will be caught up before the manifestation of the antichrist are going to be as surprised as an animal suddenly finding itself trapped inside a snare. They will suddenly find themselves trapped in the tribulation period with a real manifested antichrist in the Middle East.
Luke 21:35 – For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Revelation 12:17 – And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I believe that most of the Tribulation Period deaths will occur in the Eastern Hemisphere to the north, south, west, and east of the Euphrates River zone.

Return to the Cold War to Prepare for a Future Hot War!

It seems that the opponents of the Free World have decided to “lay back” for awhile and prepare for a major future war. I think they are finally coming to realize they cannot possible defeat Israel until they have a much great greater strength level than they now possess. It will be interesting to watch for signs of such actions at all levels. The two articles which follow lend some credence this opinion. I believe we are entering into an era of false “peace and safety.” It will be necessary for the enemies of Israel to have a better trained military structure around Israel on land and sea than they now have in place.
As I stated in the last blog, “I believe we are going to experience a few years where Russia, China, all the Islamic nations, the United States, Europe, Israel, and the terrorists are all preparing for war.
It will be a return to the Cold War tactics of threat and counter threat for several years, but this time it will eventually turn into a Middle East hot war, which will culminate at Armageddon.

Revelation 12:13 – And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
This verse of scripture has the ability to stir the seat of my emotions with fond memories of those saints departed from this life. It moves my heart to grateful praise for the work of Christ in the lives of those who are now with Him. I thank God for the Baptist foundations that Jesus laid in the hearts and lives of my forefathers. And, even more, I bow my knees before Him for the honor He bestows on this generation by allowing them the privilege of carrying Baptistic Doctrines forward in this age of ever increasing compromise.
“And their works do follow them” permeates through my soul when I visit the grave of my great-great-great Grandfather, Henry McElmurry, whose body lies in a pasture near the Old Ham Schoolhouse close to Zion, Arkansas. He was a Kentucky Baptist, born December 27, 1797, and was married March 7, 1815 in Livingston County, Kentucky. The McElmurrys were listed among the faithful of the Old Salem Baptist Church of Livingston County, which was organized in 1805. She united with the Red River Association in 1808 and with the Little River Association about 1813. Her first Pastor was Daniel Brown, but Willis Champion pastored Her from 1834 to 1874. A history of the church states: “Her pastors for the most part were stern, hard traveling preachers, who served several churches on a once per month basis, and were rewarded for their hard travels and spiritual labors with very little monetary reward…..All down through Her history the ministry and missions of the Old Salem Church has always been to minister to the needs of people both spiritually and mentally, as it is described in the Gospels…..The members have kept the faith and contended for righteousness.”
Unfortunately, with the passage of time, some of the Kentucky Baptist Churches began to compromise God’s two church ordinances. The following quote shows the drifting into error that occurred over a 68 year period in the South Kentucky Association of Separate Baptists: “As early as 1805, the subject of open communion was discussed, in the Association. The decision, at that time, was against this loose, unbaptistic practice; but in 1873 the body resolved that no person has the right to debar one of God’s children from his table.” According to the noted historian, J.H. Spencer, the only recorded case of alien immersion ever known to have been advocated by Kentucky Baptist up to 1885 was rendered by the South District Association in 1820 as follows: “We believe that all persons baptized by immersion, of good moral character, and sound in the faith, the administrator, himself, having been baptized by immersion, regularly ordained, and in good standing in his own society, ought to be received into any Baptist church.”
My great-great-great Baptist Grandfather, Henry McElmurry, organized Antioch Missionary Baptist Church near Zion, Arkansas in 1844 in the living room of his son, who was my great-great Grandfather, Andrew J. McElmurry. Henry served as one of the first moderators of the Rocky Bayou Missionary Baptist Association in 1847 and 1848. My great Grandfather, Grandfather, and Father were all saved and then baptized by the authority of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. As I stand by the graves of those Baptists out of whose loins I came, I am determined by the grace of God that I will not depart from those Biblical principles for which they stood. Today I look back into the lives of my dead fathers thanking God for the Baptist heritage they have left me by the Spirit of Christ. If Jesus does not come in my lifetime, then soon my children will stand looking down at their Father’s grave. I live in the hope that I will leave them as uncompromised a heritage as my forefathers have passed on to me. I pray that the works which follow me will be as Baptistic as those that follow my predecessors. If your children were to stand remembering at your grave in 1993, just what kind of a spiritual heritage of scriptural teachings would you have left them to recollect? The material inheritances we leave them fade with the years, but the spiritual truths of God’s Word, that we stood for and taught them during our lifetime by example, are an everlasting inheritance “and their works do follow them.”

HISTORICAL RAPTURE TEACHINGS
As a young man I developed an interest in certain historical eras of time, especially the period of time associated with the castles of ancient England. In December of 1961, after I had traveled for some three years from north to south and east to west across England, the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society published my lengthy discourse on “Forecasting Rain Stratus in the Midlands of England.” During those three years I examined most of the ancient castle earthworks found standing after the rampage of Cromwell across England. England is the land of very old books and the meticulous maintenance of these books is carried out rigorously at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. So if you really want to know for sure when a particular Biblical interpretation first came into print, these two institutions should be the place to begin your research.
From my earliest days I had an avid interest in all publications that interpreted Biblical passages concerning the second coming of Christ. When I first began lecturing in churches, seminaries, universities, and colleges in 1978, I had no idea that my travels would take me to more than 700 of these institutions, and that I would be in the immediate vicinity of most of the major colleges and universities in the U.S. The vast majority of our institutions of higher learning began as small institutions under the control of a church or churches. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, most of them individually broke away from their sponsoring churches to become the independent centers of higher secular learning today. The majority of books in colleges and universities in early years were religious books, but after they lost the influence of the sponsoring churches they gradually became more and more secular in their teaching and accredited degrees, so they had to decide what to do with their very large volume of religious books. Some were sold, some thrown away, and some placed in specially created archives. I know I am a sixth generation Missionary Baptist because of the material I collected from just such an archive in Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Its archives documented that Henry McElmurry, of whom I am a direct descendant, was the missionary-pastor of three of our early churches in southeastern Missouri from 1834 to 1839. Some of the books in the archives of these colleges are so old and fragile, that they have a designated person to open the pages for you to prevent the book being damaged.
So why have I labored on so long about old books. I wanted to know when various teachings were published concerning when the Lord would come, particularly in reference to what is called the tribulation period, a period of time that ends with the battle of Armageddon. So, as I traveled, I went to these archives and searched for this information. All of the old books I examined were quite definite that the tribulation period would close with the battle of Armageddon. But the time of the beginning of the tribulation, how long it was to last once it started, and when the first resurrection occurred in reference to it, was quite another matter. The first resurrection, which has taken on the popular title “the rapture,” has been one of the most vigorously debated theological subjects in the Word of God for some 215 years. So, because it still is, I intend to present as accurate a documented history as I am able from my research. I will attempt to show when several beliefs concerning this much debated subject first appeared on the scene in published books.
When Johannes Gutenberg invented the first process of printing from separately cast metal types, used for moveable type, the era of book publishing was soon to begin. By 1450 he had a press in Germany financed by Johann Fust. In 1455 Fust had the first printed Bible in history well under way. Slowly the publishing of books by press immerged. Many of the first books published were interpretative expositions of Biblical scriptures, and among those were expositions of scriptures about the first resurrection. After the 1611 KJV was published, expositions on Christ’s second coming started appearing in books based on the interpretation of passages found in it.
The first printed U.S. work that taught a “rapture” (first resurrection) before the blowing of the seventh trumpet in the book of Revelation was published in 1788. The teaching appeared in a book written by a well-known Baptist preacher of the eighteenth century, Morgan Edwards. It was titled “Two Academic Exercises on Subjects Bearing the Following Titles: Millennial and Last Novelties.” The book was published by Dodson and Lang, Second Street between Market and Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In my archive search to discover the first printings of various positions held on the time of Christ’s coming, in relation to the end of the tribulation period, I had only found two published positions prior to the War of 1812. The vast majority of all the publications put Christ’s coming at the very end of the tribulation period, and a definite minority placed it at the blowing of the seventh trumpet, just before God’s wrath is poured out on the earth in seven vials. However, Morgan, for the first time in history since books began to be published, taught that a rapture of the saved would occur 3 and ½ years before the end of the tribulation period. There is no record of any printed book historically published prior to 1788, as far as I have been able to discover, that taught a rapture prior to the last 3 and ½ years before the final battle of Armageddon in the tribulation period. I don’t say that such a book or books do not exist, but if they do, they are a drop in an ocean of books.
Dr. Thomas Chalmers, a Presbyterian minister of the Church of Scotland, and the man who first introduced what is known as the “Gap Theory,” had an assistant named Edward Irving. In 1827 Reverend Irving began to teach that Christ would first come for His saints, and then after a period of tribulation, He would come to destroy antichrist and to reign. In 1830 in Port Glasgow, Scotland, a 15-year-old young lady, named Margaret MacDonald, announced that she had received a prophetic vision from God concerning the coming of Christ. Her revelation may be found in a book by Robert Norton entitled “The Restoration of Apostles and Prophets” in the Catholic Apostolic Church, (London, 1861). In his book he declared that from her vision it could be seen that Christians would be taken out before the time of tribulation.
J.N. Darby, a leader among the early Plymouth Brethren, was known to have visited her during the time Margaret was having her visions. The teaching of a 7-year tribulation period came after these visions. The idea of the tribulation period consisting of two 3 and ½ year periods was put in print after John Darby began preaching the Pre-Tribulation Rapture Theory. Prior to that time you will find no publication was ever printed that showed two boxes joined together to form a 7 year period, with the first box representing a period of 3 and ½ years of peace, and the second box representing a period of 3 and ½ years of tribulation. The 7-year theory was developed by proponents of the Pre-Tribulation Rapture Theory. It was developed by letting the “he” in Daniel 9:27 refer to the antichrist rather than Christ. Before 1788 they taught that the “he” of Daniel 9:27 was Christ or Antiochus Epiphanes, but in view of the new revelation in 1788, it eventually became necessary to justify it, and by 1832 a series of new Scripture combinations began to appear, and they were used to teach what came to be known as the Pre-Tribulation Rapture Position. It was the grand joining of the “70th Week of Daniel” prophecy with the Pre-Tribulation Rapture Theory that finally launched today’s popular teaching under a wind filled sail. J.N. Darby taught that the rapture occurs before the last 7 years of the prophecy of 490 years found in Daniel 9:24-27. In Volume 3, page 424, of Darby’s letters, he wrote: “Let it be remembered now that we have no date for the rapture of the church – that the dates BEGIN with a week of Daniel 9, and half a week when the sacrifice is made to cease. But this does not affect the general testimony of Matthew 24, which may begin the week, and be carried on among the Gentiles during the great tribulation at Jerusalem.”
J.N. Darby visited America seven times between 1862 and 1877. Cyrus I. Scofield, minister of a Congregational church, became a student of all the writings of J.N. Darby, and then forever popularized his Pre-Tribulation Rapture position by placing it in the Scofield Reference Bible notes of his 1909 publication. Most of the Bible teachers of Scofield’s day did not accept his new found position, but it was so appealing to religious groups that it spread across the country like wildfire as an exciting new revelation, which taught God’s children would never go into the tribulation period. By the time I was saved in 1944, you were often considered a heretic if you believed anything other than a rapture 7 years prior to the end of the tribulation period.
When I wrote my last two books, Tribulation Triad and Birth Pangs from the Bottomless Pit in the late seventies, I was what was known as a “Mid-Tribber.” In the early eighties I changed my position on when the first resurrection occurs in relation to the end of the tribulation period. Could the Mid-Tribulation Rapture Position be correct? Yes, if God chose to wait some 1788 years after Christ’s birth before letting it first appear in a printed book exposition of Biblical scriptures by a man named Morgan Edwards. Could the Pre-Tribulation Rapture Position be correct? Yes, if God chose to wait some 1830 years after the birth of His Son before letting it first appear in a printed form. To my knowledge, there was never a published printed book prior to 1788, which explained the scriptures found in the Bible about the rapture by advocating a Pre or Mid Tribulation Rapture.
I have read the letters of the early church fathers to see if any such teaching was clearly spelled out in context in their writings on a Pre-Tribulation rapture. And, in so doing, I have searched hoping to find such a reference, but have not found a reference in context that justified such a position with sufficient clarity to be certain.
I did find two that may advocate such a position, but the only thing I can be sure of is that they are much more likely to simply refer to the rapture as being pre-millennial, not specifically pre-tribulation. The references were by Irenaeus and Hippolytus, written on scrolls in about 180 AD.
There was also a document reported by advocates of the pre-tribulation rapture position as being genuine and written by Ephraem the Syria in 373 AD. However, the document is classified by all the antiquity experts as being Pseudo-Ephraem (Pseudo means false). It was titled “On the last times, the Antichrist, and the End of the World.” But the problem with it is threefold: We can’t be sure that Ephraem wrote it, or if the man who did copied it or made it up himself, or WHEN he wrote it.
If you think I didn’t want to find such a reference, you are quite wrong. To not agree with the Pre-Tribulation position only gains you unpopularity with most of the brethren and, being carnal in the flesh, and desiring their acceptance, I certainly hoped to find such a position issued prior to 1788, but found none of which I could honestly state: Yes! This teaches a Pre-Tribulation rapture. Could I be wrong in the position I hold? Certainly! And I will continue to search for the prophetic truth on this subject. I have not changed what I was taught as a youth concerning the doctrines on salvation, baptism, the local church, and its two ordinances, but I have changed my mind about the position of the Lord’s coming in reference to the battle of Armageddon and, quite frankly, will change my mind again if I find a better case than the one you find in Prophecy Update 73D. Any man who is not willing to change his position on the time of Christ’s coming, in relation to the end of the tribulation period, makes it a doctrinal position. There is only one doctrine concerning Christ’s coming – HE IS COMING. When he comes, in relation to the events stated as occurring in the tribulation period, is a matter of opinion, not a matter of doctrine.
So how do all these different positions affect me? They don’t! In our work we have “first of the weekers,” middle of the weekers,” “last of the weekers,” “seventh trumpers,” “split rapturers,” “triple rapturers,” and “progressive rapturers.” It would be ridiculous for me to make what my brethren believe about the rapture a test of fellowship. The doctrine of Christ’s coming is that He is coming. If you don’t believe that you are a heretic, and I don’t want your fellowship. I have a very simple Biblical principle that I follow to be ready when he does come. I know I will be taken because I am saved. So I daily attempt to be faithful to Him in one of His new testament churches, in order that I will be prepared to stand before His judgment seat whenever He comes.
I do not believe we have a full week of seven years left to fulfill in Daniel’s 70 weeks of 490 years (See Prophecy Updates 55, 56, 57 and 58 in our Prophecy Archives). I am persuaded Christ is coming on the blowing of the 7th trumpet in Revelation 10:7, 11:15, and 11:18, but I live my life like it could be today. I am “watching” daily for that time, whenever it is. I have been told that one cannot do such a thing. Well, just hide and watch me! If it does occur 7 years before the battle of Armageddon, then I will be caught “watching” for His coming.
The material contained in this Prophecy Update has been taken from many old books I have perused in the U.S. and overseas during my many years of travel, but a large portion of it came from the research of John L. Bray, a Baptist Minister who was born in 1921 in Macon, Georgia, and was ordained as pastor of a Baptist church in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 18. He was educated at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, John B. Stetson University in Deland, Florida, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and, if he is still living, would be some 81 years in age. By 1990 he had spent 30 years as a pastor of Southern Baptist Churches, and completed 21 years as a full time evangelist. Revelation 9:1-12 – And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. [2] And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. [3] And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. [4] And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. [5] And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. [6] And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. I am a literal interpreter. That does not mean that I take all the inspired writings to be absolutely literal. I am very aware that certain parts of God’s Word are inspired poetically, figuratively and symbolically, but unless it yields ridiculous results, I am always more inclined to accept a literal interpretation over a figurative or symbolic explanation.
In verse one there are some points that can be made literally concerning the symbols, things, places and events described. First of all, the star is identified by the personal pronoun “him” as a masculine spiritual being that comes from Heaven.
Secondly, this masculine gender spiritual being comes to a real physical place: the planet Earth. Now, putting these two factors together, we have a being sent from Heaven to the physical earth. That means he is standing on the surface of what you see in figure 3, on top of these massive tectonic plates that float on top of an underground ocean of liquid rock. Thirdly, this heavenly visitor has been given a key which represents the authority to unlock something. He has been sent to unlock the earth itself. The earth is the bottomless pit. There are hundreds of geometric figures that have bottoms, but the earth is an oblate spheroid and, as such, it has no bottom. If it were possible to dig through the earth you could never reach bottom for you would eventually come out on the opposite side from which you started, so the earth has no bottom.
Fourthly, I invite your attention to the Koine Greek words translated “bottomless pit,” those being phreatos tes abussou, or literally, SHAFT OF THE ABYSS. This is a perfect scientific description of these great geological faults shown in figure 9. They are a great interconnecting shaft system that extends down through the crust into the abyss. It is this locked system that the heavenly being is sent to unlock. He unlocks the locked plate structure with the power of God symbolized by the key. Fifthly, please note that the interior of the bottomless pit is likened to a “great furnace.” Many scientific texts of today use this term to describe the interior of the earth.
And, lastly, please notice the results of the unlocking of the tectonic plates in verse two—a great smoke that rises up to darken the sun and the atmosphere. This is precisely what would occur if these huge tectonic plates were unlocked.
Volcanic smoke would pour upward into the earth’s atmosphere along all areas indicated by the dashed lines shown in figure 3. This smoke would most assuredly darken the sun on a worldwide basis as it collected and advected around the earth under a great temperature inversion just above the tropopause.
The description of the creatures John described are a perfect match for the idol of the Assyrian Demon of the Tigris – Euphrates River Valley, which extends from Turkey alongside Syria through Iraq and alongside Iran. This area is called the Seat of Satan, and is notorious for having demons surface from its land and waters in Revelation. The demon god Pazuzu wears a crown, has four wings, the face of a man, skin that looks like the armor of a crusader knight’s horse, a tail that stings like a large scorpion, and what looks like a breastplate across his chest.
Revelation 9:1-3,13-21 – And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. [2] And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. [3] And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. There are countless numbers of fallen angels around Satan’s throne and beneath it, below the earth, and across the earth.
The accounts of the spiritual warfare, which occurs between the fallen angels and the angels that chose to remain with God, rather than to follow Lucifer when he rebelled against God, are found in Daniel. In these accounts the fallen angels (demons) are classified as being kings and princes in the spiritual kingdom of Satan in those ancient empires that affected or afflicted Israel. The spiritual seat of Satan’s kingdom has always been between and along both sides of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers from Turkey to their entrance into the Persian Gulf. Demonic creatures and massive spiritual armies of demons will be unleashed in this kingdom to prey on its physical occupants during the last three and one half years of the Tribulation Period.
Daniel 10:10-21 – And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. [11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. [21] But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
When John was given the visions of future events in Revelation he was able to see what was happening simultaneously in the spiritual world, as well as what was happening in the physical world. We are only able to see what is happening in our physical world. If we could see what was transpiring in the spiritual world around us, it would scare us out of our wits. The creatures which John saw he described exactly as he observed their appearance. During the Tribulation Period, the men and women will not see these horrific creatures, but they will feel their sting in their flesh for the final five months before the Second Advent, as indicated above in Revelation 9:5-10. The saved will neither see nor feel the sting of these fallen angels.

Seven great empires, with different false blasphemous idols and beliefs, have both affected and/or afflicted Israel since She was delivered from Egyptian Bondage. They are, in chronological order the: (1) Egyptian, (2) Assyrian, (3) Babylonian, (4) Persian, (5) Grecian, (6) Roman, and the last two that worship the identical blasphemous Satanic God Allah – for this reason the last two heads are counted as one. The seventh head was the great (7) Umayyad Caliphate, and the eighth head will be the (8) Caliphate of the coming Islamic Caliph Antichrist.
Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a BEAST rise up out of the sea, having SEVEN HEADS and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon HIS HEADS the name of blasphemy.
Revelation 17:9 – And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The SEVEN HEADS are SEVEN MOUNTAINS, on which THE WOMAN sitteth.
Revelation 17:11 – And the BEAST that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into PERDITION.
Revrlation 19:19,20 – And I saw THE BEAST, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
The bulk of the ancient Assyrian Empire, which was the second head on the seven headed beast on the head of John’s beast, is waiting to appear on the scene in Greater Syria. The second Assyrian head consisted primarily of what is known today as modern northern Iraq and Syria. I have taught this for forty years. It is now coming to fruition in the Middle East, but the final full-blown attack on Jews will not occur until after — leaves office, and its final battle of Armageddon will not occur until some three plus years after the Antichrist’s initial attack on the nation of Israel. The Ist Resurrection (Rapture of the Saved) shall not occur until Revelation Trumpet 7 (the Last Trumpet) sounds.
The current Caliph of ISIS is not the Antichrist, and his new Caliphate is being pounded in the northern portion of Iraq, which will cause him to withdraw the bulk of his army into Syria to consolidate his power there.
The current Caliph SHALL EVENTUALLY be followed by “that Wicked,” of II Thessalonians 2:8, who is “the Assyrian,” of Micah 5:5. The Islamic Assyrian will be defeated by “this man” Christ (The God-man) at His Second Advent, the God-man that “shall be great unto the ends of the earth” as stated in Micah 5:4.
II Thessalonians 2:8 – And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming
Micah 5:2-5 – But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. [3] Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. [4] And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. [5] And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
II Thessalonians 2:3,4 – Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
The man of sin, the antichrist, the son of destruction, is described critically in verse 4. The word translated as “opposeth,” is “antikeimai.” It means “to lie opposite,” hence, to oppose, to be adverse or repugnant to another person. God is the other person in this verse, against whom all this animosity is directed.
The word translated as “exalteth” is in the middle voice, meaning “to lift up one’s self over others in conceit or arrogance.” Antichrist in his own mind becomes the god of all gods, and demands that all worship be given to him alone.
The word translated as “shewing” means “to point away from other objects at one specific object,” in this case he fingers himself as the only object of worship. It is almost as if he is frantic to prove it to himself as well as others. One of the first things one will notice in most Islamic countries are the countless huge pictures and statues of the current despotic leader, an effort on their part to point to themselves as “El Jumbo Supremo.” The antichrist will be pointing to himself as the supreme one of all supreme ones, and his statues and pictures will blanket the countries of the Islamic world.
The examination of the phrase “he as God sitteth in the temple of God” is perhaps the most interesting part of verse 4.” It has commonly been taught this refers to a rebuilt temple of stone in Jerusalem, but I have every reason to believe this is not the kind of “temple” Paul refers to in this verse. Please bear with me in a rather lengthy discourse on this phrase, because it makes a lot of difference in other areas of prophetic interpretation. If Paul had used the Greek word “HEIRON” for temple in this verse, I would tell you immediately there was no question he was referring to a rebuilt temple in the old city of Jerusalem. But he chose to use the word NAOS for temple, and that makes it a horse of quite a different color.
There are two words commonly translated as “temple” in the New Testament – HIERON and NAOS.
Temple – HIERON is the word used of the Jerusalem stone temple itself and, at times, of the whole compass of the Temple Mount enclosure, including all the other subordinate buildings pertaining to the temple.
Temple – NAOS is any enclosure surrounding the place where the Spirit of God dwells. In the HIERON, it was the enclosure within the HIERON where the Spirit of God dwelled, namely, the Holy of Holies in the rear of the Temple, which was separated from the Holy Place by a thick curtain. It was torn from top to bottom by the power of God when Jesus commended his Spirit into his hands. It was his completion of the redemptive work that finished the plan of salvation for all men, and tore open the barrier between the presence of God and man. It is still open to all those who will receive him as the one who finished God’s plan of salvation.
John 19:30 – When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Matthew 27:50,51 – Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. [51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
The word “temple” appears some 24 times in the book of Acts, and it is ALWAYS “HIERON.” It first appears in Acts 2:46. Its last occurrence is in Acts 26:21.
Acts 2:46 – And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Acts 26:21 – For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went about to kill me.
The word “NAOS” does not appear in the book of Acts.
There is no question that Paul thoroughly understood the exacting differences between the two words. It is true that, at times, the word “NAOS” is used in the N.T. to refer to the entire temple building, but only because it was a part of it. But let’s take a detailed look at how Paul himself used the words “NAOS” and “HIERON.”
Paul used the word “NAOS” eight times in all of his N.T. writings – Seven of these cases follow: See if there is any possible way you could twist these usages by Paul to refer to the stone temple in Jerusalem.
I Corinthians 3:16,17 – Know ye not that ye are the TEMPLE of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? [17] If any man defile the TEMPLE of God, him shall God destroy; for the TEMPLE of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Ephesians 2:21 – In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy TEMPLE in the Lord:
II Corinthians 6:16 – And what agreement hath the TEMPLE of God with idols? for ye are the TEMPLE of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
I Corinthians 6:19 – What? know ye not that YOUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
None of these usages refer to the stone Jerusalem temple.
Paul did use the word HIERON for the temple located in Jerusalem in the following Scripture.
I Corinthians 9:13 – Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the TEMPLE? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
Paul certainly knew the difference between the two words translated as TEMPLE in the New Testament, and, considering the importance of the eighth and final use of NAOS by Paul in all his writings, I don’t believe a temple will be built in Jerusalem before the 2nd Advent. II Thessalonians 2:4 – Who opposeth and EXALTETH HIMSELF above ALL that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the TEMPLE (NAOS) of God, SHEWING HIMSELF that he is God.
I believe that Paul’s usage of NAOS in II Thessalonians 2:4 carries the same meaning as Paul intended it to have in I Corinthians 6:19.
I Corinthians 6:19 – What? know ye not that your body is the TEMPLE (NAOS) of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
II Thessalonians 2:4 – Who opposeth and EXALTETH HIMSELF above ALL that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the TEMPLE (NAOS) of God, SHEWING HIMSELF that he is God.
The antichrist will sit in a sinful body of flesh on the temple mount. I now sit in a sinful body of flesh at 204 Hickory in Dardanelle, Arkansas. My body, even though it is sinful, is a temple I received from God in the womb. The antichrist will have received the body in which he dwells by the same process, and from the same God. But inside it will dwell an evil spirit and soul, claiming to be God, and trying to prove it to mankind. Jesus was God living in a temple of sinless flesh. He was God incarnate living in a sinless body formed by God in the womb of the Virgin Mary.
Jesus referred to his own body as a temple (NAOS), but the Pharisees and scribes thought he was referring to the Jerusalem temple.
John 2:19-21 – Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this TEMPLE (NAOS), and in three days I will raise it up. [20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? [21] But he spake of the TEMPLE OF HIS BODY.
Colossians 2:8-10 – Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. [9] For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. [10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
II Corinthians 5:19 – To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
John 10:30 – I and my Father are one.
John 14:9 – Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
The Devil is the greatest counterfeiter in all of history. His son, the antichrist, will be a man who the world will believe has been resurrected from the dead, after having received a deadly wound by a weapon of war. Jesus was the only begotten Son of God who came in sinless flesh and lived a sinless life. The Devil will come and dwell in the body of the antichrist after he is apparently returned from the dead. When the antichrist sits on the temple mount near the end of the tribulation period, he will be Satan incarnate in sinful flesh, claiming to be God, and trying to prove it to man and himself.
II Corinthians 11:13,14 – For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES into the apostles of Christ. [14] And no marvel; for Satan HIMSELF IS TRANSFORMED into an angel of light.
John 5:43 – I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
Revelation 13:3,12,14 – And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. [12] And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. [14] And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
The Beast was (he was alive) – is not (he died) – yet is (is resurrected)!
Revelation 17:8-14 – The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. [9] And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. [10] And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. [11] And the beast that was, and is not, even he IS the eighth, and IS OF the seven, and goeth into perdition. [12] And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. [13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. [14] These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
The seven mountains symbolize seven governments (kingdoms) that will all have persecuted Israel before the 2nd Advent. When John wrote Revelation, in about 96 A.D., five of the seven kingdoms, which the seven kings represent, had already persecuted Israel in the past. They were, in chronological order, the Egyptian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, and Grecian Empires. The sixth, Rome, was in power at the time John was writing, and the seventh kingdom will have the antichrist as its King. However, when he is apparently resurrected from the dead, he will be Satan incarnate in human flesh and, as such, he will also be the eighth king of the seventh kingdom. The word used for “perdition” means “destruction.” And “none shall help him,” because he will be destroyed, along with the false prophet, at the end of the final battle of Armageddon by the power of Christ’s Second Advent.
Isaiah 14:12-15 – How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. [15] Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Revelation 19:19-21 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
The antichrist’s claim to be God incarnate in human flesh will be the final accumulating and consolidation of the spirit of antichrist in a single man, which is the final absolute corruption of the truth of God in Christ. The antichrist’s claim represents the absolute denial that the one who came before him was the Christ, the Son of the living God.
I John 2:18-22 – Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. [19] They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. [20] But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. [21] I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. [22] Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
But there is another reason that I do not believe Paul was referring to a temple of stone in Jerusalem when he used the word NAOS in II Thessalonians 2:4. The same event is found in Daniel 11:45, and what follows it, in 12:1 marks it as the latter part of the tribulation period. The word used for PALACE is APPEDEN, which is never translated as TEMPLE in the Bible. And it literally means a “fortress command post.” The word for TABERNACLES is rendered from the word OHEL, which always mean TENTS. The following scripture by Daniel paints the same event that Paul paints in II Thessalonians 2:4 – The antichrist on the temple mount as Satan incarnate sitting in human flesh, between the Mediterranean and Dead Seas, with the countless tents of his great army poised to strike a final death-blow against Israel in the Negev – waiting for his command that will begin the battle of Armageddon. But in spite of his multi million army of flesh, none shall be able to help him, because he is about to be zapped by the direct power of God in his creation.
Daniel 11:45 to 12:1 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his PALACE (APPEDEN) between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. [1] And at that time shall Michael stand up the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Matthew 24:21,22 – For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Matthew 24:29,30 – Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: [30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
The admonition that Paul gave to the Elders of the church at Ephesus is sorely needed today. Since Paul spoke these words countless number of grievous wolves have entered in among many flocks, and have drawn away many disciples to follow them, just as Paul said they would in Acts 20:17-31, and there are many flocks led by false teachers. They do not FEED the church of God with MEAT in due season.
Acts 20:28 – Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to FEED the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Matthew 24:44-47 – Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. [45] Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them MEAT in due season? [46] Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. [47]Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over ALL his goods.
The real question that a member of one of the Lord’s churches should be asking is this – How much of the inheritance do I want to inherit? Or, to put it another way – How close to God will you live in heaven?
Revelation 21:7 – He that overcometh shall inherit ALL things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
God has concluded ALL of Israel in unbelief, and while the words “they” and “them” in I Thessalonians 5:3 can be used to apply to all unbelievers, it is, in context, specifically referring to the nation of Israel.
Romans 11:32 – For God hath concluded THEM all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
I Thessalonians 5:3-6 – For when THEY shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon THEM, as travail upon a woman with child; and THEY shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. [5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. [6] Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
Should atheists, agnostics, or anyone read the book of Revelation? Yes! But the book is written to churches. And the primary applications of the writings are directed to church members. Church members, who will not swallow the MEAT of the word by applying it to their lives, are defiling their garments, which represent their visible, everyday, outer lifestyle testimony to the world. And they are going to live about as close to Jesus in his heavenly kingdom as they lived to him in this present life.
Revelation 3:3,4 – Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. [4] Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
Revelation 22:12-14 – And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. [13] I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. [14] Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
“Quickly” is an adverbial modifier used as a descriptive adjective. It is referring the manner of his coming, not the time or nearness of it. His coming for the saved will be as quick as the blinking of an eye.

Saved will be judged in heaven for eternal positions & garments.
Revelation 11:15,18 – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. [18] And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
The lost will be judged at great white throne and cast into a lake of fire.
Revelation 20:14,15 – And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
